System Name:

Memorial Park

Location:

Granite Falls, MN

Just south of Granite Falls stands an outcropping of what is claimed to be the oldest exposed rock in the world.

Chunks of this granite, formed nearly 4 billion years ago, were blasted away in the early 1900’s to build Highway 23, the state’s second longest highway, which connects Duluth to the southwest corner of Minnesota.

We used a select few of these huge pieces of granite to create two sets of stairs, connecting Memorial Park to nearby historic pioneer dwellings and downtown Granite Falls.
